"In some photographs the essence of light and space dominate; in others, the substance of rock and wood, and the luminous insistence of growing things"

About

My photography has always been about being open to my surroundings and my interpretation of the space I occupy at any given time. By being open, I hope that I might glimpse the beauty present at that particular moment through the lens of my particular angle of vision. Capturing the beauty of that moment is, for me, a testament to being present.

Growing up on the waterfront in Portland, Maine, my early work in photography sought to embrace the spirit of that waterfront and the beauty of Maine's coastline. Departing Maine many decades ago, I traveled to more than fifty-five countries and have witnessed much of the fascinating, extraordinary, strange, and beautiful this world discloses. Five years ago, I happily settled in the remarkable community of Manitou Springs, Colorado.

Here, among the mountains at the base of Pikes Peak, I have set up shop in a studio looking out over this lovely mountain village and surrounding mountain peaks. I do return to Maine each year, enabling me to stay connected to mountains and sea and to be inspired by both. More importantly, my grandchildren tell me I am funny, and it is in their company that I am most connected to the wonders and beauty of the world.
